Alternative Title

The Photographic Portfolio: Canadian Scenes

Description

This was the first photographically illustrated publication produced in Canada. It was published in monthly instalments beginning in 1858 and ceased production in 1860 after some delays between issues. The plates are often found bound together in a single book, but each photograph was delivered to the reader individually in a green paper wrapper, with an accompanying text plate (or plates). The earlier wrappers were "Printed by Middleton & Dawson, Printers', Shaw's Building, Lower Town." In 1860 the printer switches to "John Lovell, Printer, St. Ann Street, Upper Town." There are few surviving copies.
