Illustrated copies contained photographs supplied by local Quebec photographer J. B. Livernois, but these vary considerably in number and choice of imagery -- too much to be merely the result of a photographer using variant negatives to expedite printing. The community of readers who purchased these books appear to have selected the photographs they personally wanted from the Livernois studio, sometimes greatly in excess of the number that was supposed to have been delivered with the book. There are 7 books in total in the Maple Leaves series. The third book is the only one illustrated by photographs, however sometimes book three is found bound together with volumes one and two. In the collected volumes, the photographs that would otherwise have only appeared in volume three tend to be dispersed throughout the books.
