The wooden carvings of Jean and François Baillairgé are known only through photographs now, a fire having destroyed the interior of the cathedral in 1922.
The photograph of the author appears to have been taken in 1864, one year after the publication date. It was probably inserted by the reader or author, if intended as a gift. There is a signature below the portrait.
